For those following the significant reforms within the aged care sector, we have an important update regarding the implementation of the new Aged Care Act and the associated Support at Home (SAH) program. These reforms are designed to offer greater choice and control to older Australians.
The Australian Government has officially announced a revised timeline for these changes. Initially scheduled for a July 2025 launch, the commencement of both the new Aged Care Act and the Support at Home program has been postponed to November 1, 2025.
Why the Revised Timeline? 🤔
This extension has been granted to ensure a seamless and effective transition for existing providers and HCP care recipients. The decision was made in response to valuable feedback from older people, their families, and aged care providers, who expressed the need for additional preparation time. This delay will facilitate several key outcomes:
Enhanced Understanding: It provides a longer period for everyone to thoroughly understand the new system and its implications.
Provider Readiness: Aged care organisations can use this time to properly adjust their systems and processes to align with the new legislative framework.
Comprehensive Information: The government will have more opportunity to circulate detailed information, empowering you to make well-informed decisions regarding your care.
How to Stay Informed 💌
Staying informed about the progress of these reforms is crucial as the new implementation date approaches. We recommend the following reliable sources for the latest updates:
Department of Health, Disability and Ageing Website: This is the primary source for official announcements, comprehensive fact sheets, and detailed information on the reforms.
The My Aged Care Website: Regularly check the news and updates section on the My Aged Care portal for key announcements and helpful resources.
Official Newsletters: Subscribing to newsletters from the Department of Health and Aged Care is an excellent way to receive timely updates directly.
Your Service Provider: Your current aged care provider will remain a key point of contact for information and can clarify how these changes may impact your specific services.
We view this postponement as a positive and strategic step, ensuring the forthcoming changes build a stronger, person-centered aged care system.
We encourage everyone to use this extended period to stay engaged and prepared for the future of aged care. 🚗💨
